Scoutpack Travels: Oui Scout Paris

Bonjour!

We love SCOUTing unique wares that aren't for everyone. Over the years, we have SCOUTed the world to carefully find and create our collections. A few weeks ago, we attended the leading home décor fair in Paris. But we didn't stop there - we had all kinds of adventures in the French capital! Join us in The City of Lights for a sneak peek at our most recent travel experience.

To keep our fingers on the design pulse, we SCOUT out the Maison & Objet exhibition every year. An 8 day curated design show with seemingly never-ending inspiration, we love getting to explore the European influence in the design world. Our favorite part of Maison & Objet? Getting the opportunity to meet the creatives behind cutting edge design! Here's a little bit about our favorites from this year's show:

Philippe Balayn is a French artist who combines drawing, painting, and sculptural techniques in his work. Philippe uses a wide acrylic color palette to capture depictions of nature and the animal world in all of its forms – from the living, to the “less living”. Many of his works aim to depict the impact of man’s industrial creations on nature.

StoryTiles creates art on tiles, wood and plates. Every design features humorous details, in which classical concepts contrast with modern elements. Handbaked in Holland & crafted by humor, all StoryTiles products are artisanally created in The Netherlands.

Based in Le Perréon, France, Marie Talalaeff creates modern yet realistic animals using wire netting, electric cable and paper pulp. Each piece is hand sculpted and takes months to shape and dry. Marie has exhibited from Paris to Seoul and we've been lucky enough to sell her eclectic wares at Scout!

Already obsessed with these European artisans? We will have their unique offerings available soon. Stay tuned!

We spent an afternoon longing after the displays at Galerie Glustin. Hello antiques, vintage, and exceptional contemporary design! We would recommend this gallery to lovers of beauty, quality, and curation. To us, Galerie Glustin is a great way to see the next trends and keep ourselves relevant.

Is anyone surprised that we did some vintage SCOUTing at the flea market? We can't help ourselves! We had a blast browsing the streets of Paris and meeting interesting vendors along the way. Keep an eye out - we're expecting a fun shipment of vintage Paris finds at the showroom soon.

Authentically French, Montmarte is a charming village located in the heart of Paris. We spent some time strolling the cobblestone streets and soaking in the history of this quaint location. You never know when design inspo will hit - it was refreshing to see all of the artistic talent in the artist's square.

Inspiration abounds in the city of love - even the cafes are 'gram worthy! Did you really go to Paris if you didn't sit at a few charming bistros while sipping some espresso? We don't think so.

We are bringing back lots of inspiration from sweet Paris (and a macaron or two). Our biggest design takeaways from this year's trip? Brass will always be class, but we noticed that matte metals are coming into favor. There's also an emphasis on fabric texture - we've got you covered there with boucle galore. Expect lots of fun artisanal products with a European twist coming soon!

Au Revoir from the SCOUTPACK.
